Christmas 1993
We bought a house in 1993 and wanted it to be the main feature of our
Christmas card, the challenge was to still make the card eye-catching.
To do that we took a 15 minute exposure of the house as follows: The camera
was set up on a tripod across the street with the aperture set at f/4 and
the shutter left open. Frank then used a flashlight pointed at the camera
to write the word "NOEL" in the air. The flashlight was turned
off, the lens covered and the aperture adjusted to f/8. Then Frank went
around the house flashing the porch upstairs and down to paint the house
in with light. The porch and room lights which were off during the bulk
of the exposure were turned on for several seconds. We got in several of
the flashes on the porch and stood in front of the flash once to produce
the noticeable silhouette on the upstairs porch. Then the camera shutter
was closed and the picture was complete.
